WDS (Windows Deployment Service) or RIS(Remote Installation Service)

WDS (Windows Deployment Service) or RIS(Remote Installation Service)
WDS is available in Windows server 2000, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2. WDS is use for remote installation of windows operating system. It can be use in the domain not in the workgroup. It is use for fresh setup like new branch office where client machine have blank hard disk.
We can deploy Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, windows 2000 professional, windows XP, windows Vista, windows7, windows 8 etc.

Requirement for WDS on server side :-
1. Active Directory domain
2. DNS
3. DHCP
4. Windows 8 client CD to create image
5. Blank partition to create image (it must not be system partition but data can be store)
6. WDS
7. Wired or Wireless connection with remote client machine in LAN

Requirements for WDS on client end :-
1. Blank hard disk drive without any partition
2. PXE (Pre-Executable Environment) LAN card or Wakeup LAN                 It is special LAN card which can                                                                                                                                         start working without any OS.

WDS Protocol :-
1. BINL (Boot Information Negotiation Layer)   It is backbone of WDS, it is use to respond the PXE client request.
2. SIS (Single Instance Store)     It create duplicate copy of image for each client machine.
3. TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol)    It can start  CIW (Client Installation Wizard) and image start downloading on remote client machine.

WDS Process :-
Client machine will start and broadcast its MAC address in the entire network, it will discover the DHCP server. DHCP server will assign IP address and also join computer in the domain. DNS is use for communication. AD domain policies will be applied and WDS will send image for the remote client machine.

Practical :-
step1  Fulfill all the requirements
step2  Install WDS from Server Manager Roles
step3  Open Administrative tools  -> WDS  -> Configure Server
step4  Create Install image and Boot image
step5  AD users and computers    ->  Domain name -> Rt. click  -> Delegate control   ->   Add    ->             Administrator    -> Join computer to the domain   -> OK
step6  Switch on client machine and Enable Boot from Network
step7  Press F12 to boot from network and give username
