How To upgrade or transition of Windows 2003 to 2008 (Standalone server or Member server) or 2008 to 2012: and step

To upgrade or transition of  Windows 2003 to 2008 (Standalone server or Member server)  or 2008 to 2012:-                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

step1   check hardware and software compatibility
step2   Insert Windows 2008 DVD to upgrade W2K3 into W2K8
step3  Run setup of W2K8
step4  Select Upgrade  instead of Customize


To upgrade windows2003 DC to windows 2008 DC or W2K8 DC to Windows2012 DC :
step1   Check hardware and software configuration before transition.
step2   Windows 2003 DC must be Native mode (check functional level compatiblility)
step3   Insert windows 2008  DVD
step4   RUN   cmd
step5   C:\>  d:            (D: drive is DVD ROM)
step6   D:\> cd sources\adprep
step7   D:\>sources\adprep> adprep  /forestprep
step8   D:\>sources\adprep>adprep /domainprep   /gpprep
step9   Run setup of windows 2008 (D:\setup.exe)
step10  Select  Upgrade during the installation
         
NOTE:         Forestprep  is use to upgrade schema
                   Domainprep is use to upgrade Administrative rights
                   GPPREP is use to upgrade domain policies


NOTE:  If we want to configure windows2008 ADC with windows 2003 GCS, then do not use step9 and step10 in windows2003 GCS.
